# Number Puzzle #18- Sum Of The Ages -

There are four brothers in a family.

The sum of the ages of each combination of three brothers is: 30, 32, 32, and 35.

How old is the oldest brother?

**HINT**: The age of each brother is counted a total of three times in the sums above. So what is the
sum of the ages of all four brothers?

**ANSWER**: 13.

**EXPLANATION**: The age of each brother is counted a total of three times in the sums above (each
brother is excluded from one of the four sums). So adding the four sums together and then dividing by 3
will give you the combined age of the four brothers. 30 + 32 + 32 + 35 = 129. 129/3 = 43 (the combined
age of the four brothers). The lowest sum of the ages above (30) is the one that excludes the
oldest brother. So the age of the oldest brother is 43 - 30 = 13!
