Imagine a cardboard circle lying flat on its side on a cutting board. Using five straight
(i.e. perpendicular to the cutting board) and without
moving/stacking any of the pieces
, what is the maximum number of pieces that can be obtained
with five cuts? Note: the pieces need not be equal in size.
Reminder, no sneaky stuff
1) you may NOT cut the cardboard circle horizontally (i.e. parallel to the cutting board).
2) you may NOT stack the pieces on top of each other.
Do you have a suggestion
for this puzzle (e.g. something that should
be mentioned/clarified in the question or solution, bug, typo, etc.)?
